Prescription Medicines

Embrace's prescription drug coverage for take-home medications is available with every insurance policy. Embrace's coverage reimburses for FDA-approved and Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia-included drugs as long as they are prescribed for your dog or cat's covered condition(s).

Your policy will cover take-home drugs like eye & ear drops, antibiotics, allergy medications, insulin & supplies.

The prescription drug coverage applies toward prescription medications for treating covered accidents and illnesses. It does not include coverage for heartworm/flea/tick preventatives or prescription diet food. Embrace does help you budget for those items with the Wellness Rewards.

Prescription medication will require a co-pay and this cost counts toward your annual deductible, allowing you to reach your deductible sooner.

In some states prescription drug coverage is an optional add-on while in other states it is included on all new policies, so you should get a fast quote and you'll find out if it's automatically covered in your state.

Prescription dog or cat food, and preventative medications for flea, tick and heartworm are not covered by the prescription drug portion of Embrace's accident and illness insurance plan, but through the Wellness Rewards you're reimbursed 100% up to your annual limit!

Breed-specific & Genetic Conditions

Embrace Insurance includes Full Coverage for genetic conditions.

Defects that are transmitted to a puppy or kitten from his or her parents are considered genetic, as they come from the parent's underlying defective genes. The term breed-specific condition has developed from the studies that show that some breeds have more gene defects than other breeds.

Some of these genetic conditions can lie dormant for many years, and show signs when a dog is older. Genetic conditions, breed specific or not can be very expensive to treat. In the unfortunate event that your pet develops one of these conditions, an Embrace Insurance plan will pay your veterinary bills.

The most common breed-specific conditions are:

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Elbow Dysplasia
  • Cancer
  • Allergies
  • Patellar Luxation
  • Interverterbral Disc Disease (IVDD)

All Embrace accident and illness policies fully cover breed-specific conditions with no per-incident or per-condition limits. You do not pay extra for this coverage. Pre-existing conditions are not covered, whether breed-specific or not, so you want to insure your pet sooner than later.

What Is Healthy Pet Deductible

Your pet's annual deductible automatically goes down by $50 each year that you don't receive a claim reimbursement! It's that simple.

Healthy Pet Deductible is included with every policy at no extra charge.

If your dog has a $200 annual deductible on their policy then:

  • Year #1 you receive no claim reimbursement, your pet is credited $50 towards his or her deductible.
  • Year #2 you receive no claim reimbursement, your pet is credited another $50 towards his or her deductible. That's a total of $100 credit.
  • Year #3 you submit a claim for $1,300. Your $100 Healthy Pet Deductible Credit will be used, so your deductible is effectively reduced from $200 to just $100.
  • Year #4 your Healthy Pet Deductible will reset and your pet's deductible will revert back to $200.

Once your pet's deductible decreases to $0, that is as low as it can go.

The Healthy Pet Deductible applies only to accident and illness claims.

Each individual pet on your policy accumulates and uses the Healthy Pet Deductible separately from one another.

What's Not Covered?

Routine Veterinary Care

Routine Veterinary Care costs like Wellness Office Visits, Flea/Tick/Heartworm Preventatives, and Vaccines are not covered in the Embrace Accident and Illness Policy. Wellness Rewards Plan is Embrace's flexible routine care program that reimburses you for everyday grooming costs, training, and veterinary costs like spay/neuter.

Pre-existing Conditions

A Pre-Existing Condition is any illness, irregularity, or injury noticed by you or your veterinarian before the end of your policy waiting period, even if your dog or cat never saw your vet for it.

Your policy terms and conditions require that your pet has been examined by a veterinarian in the last 12 months in order for your coverage to be active. Your coverage will not start until your pet has a veterinary examination.
